During cast iron production, carbon (C) and silicon (Si) content are key parameters requiring frequent monitoring. In foundries using medium-frequency furnaces or continuous melting systems, rapid analysis of molten iron composition enables technicians to determine whether material additions or compositional adjustments are needed before pouring.

The Carbon-Silicon Analyzer uses thermal analysis to evaluate molten iron samples. In this system, the sampling cup (probe cup) is a critical consumable that directly impacts the accuracy of the analysis results.

What is the Carbon Silicon Analyzer used for?

After sampling molten iron, the operator pours the sample into a cup. The cup creates controlled solidification conditions for the sample. The analyzer records the temperature curve during cooling to calculate and evaluate the following parameters: • C% (Carbon) • Si% (Silicon) • CEL (Carbon Equivalent Liquidus) • CE (Carbon Equivalent) • SC (Saturation Carbon) • Liquidus Temperature • ΔT (Undercooling) • Solidification-related parameters

With CYY-LK2 and CYY-LK7,, the analysis results can also be used to estimate certain properties of cast iron, such as tensile strength (RM) and hardness (HB), for unalloyed cast iron using the configured method and coefficients.

How does the sampling cup affect the analysis results?

For carbon and silicon analysis using thermal methods, electronic equipment is only part of the solution. The measurement process relies on the temperature change of the molten iron sample during solidification: Molten Iron → Sampling Cup → Heat Transfer → Cooling Curve → Analysis Algorithm → C/Si/CE Results
